Personality Profile: Elisabeth Pfaffl

On each of our adventure tours, we take you behind stage for a candid interview with a young professional working in the Austrian wine industry:

Elisabeth Pfaffl grew up with wine on the family estate. After graduating from a college of tourism and some months abroad, she joined the family business. Elisabeth manages the winery together with her parents and her brother Roman. The Pfaffls cultivate 53 vineyard hectares in Vienna and the Weinviertel.

What is the most exciting thing about the Austrian wine branch?

The already high and consistent quality just keeps getting better! The international recognition Austrian wine receives is really motivating!

What to you love most about the Weinviertel?

I’ll never tire of the wide, peaceful valleys and gentle hills --- it’s an open and warm-hearted landscape. I adore the Grüner Veltliner here; it’s particularly peppery in the Weinviertel.

What do you enjoy most in your work?

It is the fascination of working together with nature and producing a top-product. Every year brings its own challenges and lessons, keeping things exciting!

If you had to take one wine to each of following, what would it be and why?

A Rendezvous?

A refreshing and peppery Weinviertel DAC. It always whets the appetite for more! ;-)

Dinner with very good friends?

A full-bodied, spicy Grüner Veltliner is perfect for long conversations.

An isolated desert island?

A mature Blauer Zweigelt because it is ideal for long hours of dreaming from home and I’d hate to die of thirst without a drop of home in sight!
